The story of Tomorrowland deals with an optimistic young girl who believes in the idealistic concept of tomorrow - a utopian community inspired by the works of Jules Verne - whose quest to find her father leads her to discover a mysterious place called "Tomorrowland" that has existed since the 19th century where robots and other innovations are hidden away from public knowledge. The film was released on June 2 in the United States in 3D and 2D. It was shown in France at the same day in both French and English dubbed version. A week before released, it screened along with "The BFG" (who were taking screen at the same time) in 635 theaters for around 3 weeks; however, it did not perform well compared to that of "The BFG". Since then, it saw limited release in 491 theaters until November 10, 2015 where it went to wide release (672 screens) due to its popularity among audiences since its limited release. It earned $32.9 million in North America and $40.4 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $73.3 million, against a budget of $180–$190 million (55% more than the original estimate). The film grossed $32.9 million in North America and $40.4 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $73.3 million, against its estimated production budget of $180–$190 million ($55 million more than the original estimate), making it the third-highest-grossing live-action original IP release (unadjusted for inflation) behind "Avatar" ($2,788) and "Alice in Wonderland" ($1,025). It opened on the North America on June 12, 2015, alongside "" and "Poltergeist", as well as the wide release of "Entourage", and was expected to gross around $40 million from 3,749 theaters in its opening weekend. After falling behind "Jurassic World" for a spot at #1 on Friday with $8.75 million, projections for its weekend total were lowered to $30–35 million, behind the third week of "Jurassic World" ($54.5 million) and fellow newcomer "Entourage" ($18–20 million). The film was projected to gross $38.5 million and finished with $32.9 million, finishing third at the box office. The film was not released in all International markets outside of the United States. Its biggest success was in Russia where it grossed $1.6 million. Its release was also affected by the June 1 earthquakes in Mexico, which caused many people to stay at home to escape damaged structures and power outages, making it difficult for the film to get a large audience. This allowed "Jurassic World" to have a better opening weekend than initially expected, while "Tomorrowland" opened below its projected opening weekend number. It earned $32 million in China. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes gave it an approval rating of 70% based on 273 reviews with an average score of 6. cfa1e77820
